Meaningful End of the Year Keepsake for Students in Upper Elementary

end of the year keepsake

The end of the year can be so such a hectic and emotional time of the year for both you and your students. You are tired, that is no secret! But, you would like to create memories and even an end of the year keepsake for students, but it must be simple and easy and your students need to love it! Well, I have your answer!

Why End of the Year Keepsakes for Students Matter

The school year is so busy, and time flies by. As teachers, we hope to provide our students with a fun and meaningful end of the school year experience. One way to do that is to create a project that will help students remember friends, teachers, and classroom experiences.

Upper elementary students are old enough to truly value and end of the year keepsake. They enjoy the process of creating something to keep and remember. Creating a keepsake can also help your students remember the classroom community that has been built throughout the year and help to end the year on a positive note.

Lasting Memories Students (and Parents) Will Actually Keep

An autograph book can be the perfect keepsake for doing all of these things. Students will love collecting signatures and notes from their peers and classmates. Turn on some summer music, and let your students mix and mingle to fill their autograph books. If you like a little more structure, have a plan for students to rotate until they have visited each student in the classroom. This could be done by dividing your students in half. Let one half of the students stay still (and do not rotate). Let the other half rotate around the room, signing each other’s booklets, until they are all complete.

Students don’t have to only write their names; they can write encouraging notes, share favorite classroom memories, and share friendship messages.

These booklets are a great alternative for those students who do not purchase yearbooks and will be a treasured memento for years to come. Many students tuck these autograph books away as special keepsakes long after the school year ends.

Low-Prep Activity That Teachers Need During the Last Week of School

I’ll admit, by the last week of school, I have been exhausted and just needing some activities that will engage my students and help me get through the day. After weeks of state testing, the shorter attention spans that come with the end of the year, and the end of the year to-do list, I am looking for an activity that is meaningful, but calming. (Please tell me I’m not alone!)

Autograph books can do just that! They can be as simple as passing out 2 or 3 pieces of paper for students to fold together to create a booklet. You can even give them a piece of construction paper to fold over the other pages as a cover, and just staple them together! Viola! Your students have an autograph booklet to fill up. They can then draw and color a cover. Write the year, the school name, their name, and your name on the front.

A Fun and Easy Autograph Booklet Your Students Will Treasure

If you are looking for a simple print and go version of an autograph book, my End of the Year Autograph Book is not only a fun way for students to collect autographs from classmates, but it includes a variety of other fun and interactive activities that your students will love. From drawing fun doodles, to a message board, and even writing to share “rays of sunshine” with classmates, your students will stay engaged in creating this fun activity. This end of the year keepsake for students will be a treasured keepsake that they will want to hold on to for many years to come.
